PREPARE
A course for older teens
Asked about your long-term goals and you freeze. You want to do something meaningful and that will allow you to live independently but aren't sure where or when to begin. What can you do now that will put you ahead of the pack later? It's easier to focus on what's in front of you than on something that seems far away, confusing, and scary.
Most students just endure the anxiety and wait for that fateful day when they have to look for a job and embark on a career. Others take small steps along the way, and more easily sail into meaningful work.
By taking control, getting prepared, and pursuing opportunities to build toward your success along the way, you'll be better positioned than most of your peers to secure a meaningful job, and make a positive impact upon graduation.
Who It’s For…
High school juniors through college sophomores
Focus…
This hands-on course is designed specifically for students who are nearing the end of high school, or are early in their college career, and passionate about identifying and preparing for a future path as social and environmental change-makers. Learn tips and tricks from those in the field, rather than a career counseling office. Understand and tell your story, and connect your passion to pragmatic action and potential future employment. Identify the skills you already have, those you'd like to develop, and how to pursue and communicate these to employers. Learn how to find great internships and then maximize their value, and build meaningful relationships and a network to support your future goals.
What You Will Learn…
Informational interviews: What they are, how they work, what to ask, and why you aren't too young to have them;
Job search strategies, and how understanding the process now can make for a smoother, more powerful post-college transition later;
Experience matters—How to translate your extracurricular and campus experiences into concrete skills that reduce the risk of hiring you;
Breaking it down: from monolith to beautiful garden, the equation for "success";
